An infographic is exactly what it sounds like! A visual representation (graphic) of data (info). Infographics usually use simple engaging imagery along with limited text citing facts and statistics to give an overview of a topic.  You’ve probably seen them around a lot lately on your social media. That’s because on visual platforms like Instagram and Facebook, images perform better than text posts do.

If you have some info you want to share in a clear and appealing way, you can use Kapwing - a free online tool for creators - to make your own infographic! With the studio tool on Kapwing you are easily able to move around text and graphics to create a custom infographic.

Before you get started creating, I recommend you take these steps to get organized:

  1. Gather up the facts and statistics that you want to share.
  2. Gather any images, logos, or icons that you would like to use to get your message across
  3. Do a quick search of other infographics online to get a feel for what kind of style or design you want.

All done? Cool. Time to get started!

Here are the steps you can follow to make your own infographic online:

  1. Create your template
  2. Add in graphics
  3. Add in info
  4. Export

1. Optimize and create your template.

First, open the Kapwing Studio and click ‘Start with a blank canvas’. Next, select the canvas size ratio you are interested in. Your infographic size/shape may depend on where you are sharing it. For example, if you want to share your infographic on Twitter, you can use this guide to figure out what size to produce.

Next, choose the background color and add a catchy title using the text tool. Don’t forget to customize the font and colors for a more visually appealing graphic.

2. Add your visuals.

Next you will want to incorporate the visual elements that will be the framework for your infographic. There are a few different options here. You can also upload your own photos to Kapwing or search the web for them using the ‘images’ feature.

You may want to remove the background of your images so they fit better into the infographic style. You can also create your graphics from scratch using the ‘shapes’ feature.

3. Add your info.

You can use the “text” feature to add in your facts and data. Try using bigger or bolder texts for your standout statistics. You can add an outline to your text to make it more clear on a light or dark background.

4. Export your infographic.

Finally you will want to save your infographic to your computer so you can share it. Click the “publish” button to open your export options. Make sure you title your infographic so that you can find it in your files. Finally, click “download” and your image will save as a .jpg in your computer downloads.

You can take your infographic to the next level by adding movement! Try adding gifs or animated text to your infographic to grab the attention of your viewers. There is a lot more you can do with Kapwing too. Check out the full range of free and easy-to-use tools here.
