Video is everything these days, and it doesn’t just apply to YouTube channels. Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms encourage users to post videos in several different lengths and formats, and the days where simple photo and caption posts were enough are long gone. If you want to grow your following and produce great content, you’ll need to spice your feed up by creating videos using online tools.
However, some platforms have limitations when it comes to video. Instagram, as an example, only allows a certain video length when it comes to feed and stories. So how can you post a longer video on Instagram?
There are several ways to do it:
1. Cut your video into shorter clips
2. Upload to IGTV
3. Go live
Which option should you choose, and what works best for Instagram? Let’s take a look.
1. Cut Your Video into Short Clips
Instagram stories only allow 15-second video clips, whereas on your feed, you can post one-minute videos. If you have a longer video that you want to post, your best bet will be to cut the video up into short sections. Keep in mind that for stories, Instagram will chop your video up on its own, but only if the video is no more than a minute long. If you want to control your own content, your best bet is to cut and edit the video yourself.
If it’s for an IG story, cut the video into fifteen-second clips and post them one after another. If it’s your feed, you can post longer, sixty-second clips. The fastest way to cut up your video is using the Kapwing Studio – all you need to do is upload your video and cut it any way you like.
2. Upload to IGTV
If your video is longer than a minute, but you don’t want to cut it into separate sections, you can always upload it to IGTV where longer, ten-minute videos are allowed. The trick with IGTV, however, is to pick the right preview for your video which will be posted on your feed. Instagram allows you to do this when posting, so just make sure you know exactly which portion of the video you want your followers to see in your feed.
3. Go Live
Live videos have the least limitations on Instagram: if you go live, the video can be up to one-hour long. This is a fantastic option if you want to post a video from an event, a trip, or if you’re a vlogger. Live videos are a fantastic tool to keep your audience engaged, so make sure you use them!
